Containers for Change

Queensland's Containers for Change initiative is one of our most popular recycling programs, offering residents the opportunity to return eligible drink containers for a 10-cent refund. With drop-off points at Qunaba and Bundaberg West, it’s never been easier for locals to participate. Not only does this program help reduce waste, but it also allows individuals and community groups to raise funds for various projects and causes.

What Containers Are Eligible?

  • Drink containers between 150ml and 3L, including soft drink cans, plastic water bottles, wine bottles, and glass juice containers.
  • Containers must be clean, empty, and free from any contaminants.
  • Items like milk containers are not eligible but can still be recycled through other programs.

Eligible containers

Want to check the eligibility of a container?

Not all containers are eligible. To find out what can and can’t be returned, search our list of containers. Visit HERE to find out

There are some beverage containers that are not eligible for a refund. Generally excluded containers are those that are less than 150ml and greater than 3L.

Excluded containers

Excluded containers include:

  • Plain milk containers of all sizes including plant-based milk substitutes
  • Cask wine
  • Containers 1L or more that contained flavoured milk, pure fruit or vegetable juice, cask wine or cask water
  • Concentrated/undiluted cordial or syrup containers
  • Sachets above 250ml that have contained wine
  • Registered health tonics

By returning containers, you contribute to a circular economy, where materials are reused, reducing the need for new raw materials and minimising environmental damage. Our convenient drop-off locations are open daily, making it easy for everyone to get involved.

How the Program Benefits the Community:

  • Reduces litter and waste in public spaces
  • Provides a simple way for individuals and organisations to raise funds
  • Supports environmental conservation efforts
  • Provides employment
  • Supports other community initiatives provided by IMPACT Community Services
